Cycling in Provence with Oak Hall in July 2004

This page is primarily a resource for the eighty or so campers who went cycling in Provence with Oak Hall from 19-29 July 2004 (the VC10 trip). Contributions to this site are welcome from all holidaymakers and if you have your own site then let me know so that I can link to it. If you know someone that was on the trip who may not know about this resource then please pass on the details. Anybody else is entirely welcome to browse this site and contact me for further information or with questions.

Observations and Memories

The campsite called Camping Municipal du Pont d'Avignon is located at Île de la Barthelasse within short walking distance of the city of Avignon at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Durance. The site has excellent facilities including showers, laundrette, outdoor swimming pool, tennis, table tennis, pool table, snack bar and a shop. Avignon itself was in festival season so there was plenty of talented street entertainment, a circus, and lots of late-night drumming along the riverside!

Kudos to all French car drivers around Provence. On several occasions an entire group of cyclists crossed their path or blocked their exit and without exception they waited patiently and passed at a slow speed allowing plenty of room. In fact I can only remember one occation when an angry motorist passed close by at around 70mph sounding their horn - I'm ashamed to say that it had British licence plates!
